Cold Sore Policy

Due to the very nature of cold sores, our Hygienist and Dentists have to follow strict Infection Control Guidelines to prevent the spread of a very contagious condition, which can put both the patient and staff at risk of cross infection.

Your Health and safety and the health of our team and other patients, matters.

If you have a cold sore, we kindly ask that you reschedule your appointment until your lesion is fully healed.

This helps protect you, our team and everyone in our practice.

Prevents cross infection
The virus that causes cold sores (herpes simplex virus) is highly contagious and can spread through close contact.
This includes dental instruments, suction, water spray and even touching surfaces.
Protects other patients and our team
Some people, such as those with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, babies and young children, may be more vulnerable to infection.
This policy helps keep our dental family safe.
Supports your healing
Dental treatment can sometimes irritate the area and may slow down the healing or cause discomfort.
Waiting until the lesion is fully healed helps ensure your best experience.
